Public records, handled with care.

Nearly everything here is public record: what a county’s property valuation office will show anyone who walks up to its counter. We make it easier to read and lovelier to look at, and we try hard not to make it easier to misuse. Here is what we keep, plainly. It covers everything Taxr runs: PVAToday, taxr.org, mccracken.properties, the county app, the chat, the PVA Today apps on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Android, and Quilt City for Apple TV.

The records

Where they come from

Each county’s PVA office sends us its property roll: parcels, values, sales, and owners’ names and mailing addresses. It’s the public record, the same as at the office. We show one record at a time to anyone; lists of many records need an account.

What the pictures leave out

The glass, the light and the TV show parcels, roads and sales as shapes and colours. The art never puts a name or a mailing address on screen; for those you open a parcel’s record, as you would at the PVA’s counter.

Withholding an address

For Kentucky’s Safe at Home program, a court order, or an owner’s request, the PVA office can withhold a mailing address with us. It then disappears everywhere we serve it, within about 30 seconds. Start with your PVA’s office, or write to us.

Corrections

A mistake in the record belongs with the PVA’s office, which keeps the original. Tell us too, and we’ll check our copy.

What we keep about you

Visiting

  • No ads, no trackers, no analytics scripts.
  • No cookies unless you sign in.
  • Our servers and Cloudflare, which carries our traffic, see what every website sees: your IP address, the page and your browser. That’s used to deliver pages and keep out abuse, not to build a picture of you.
  • A few pages load things from elsewhere: maps on mccracken.properties use Esri’s satellite imagery and OpenStreetMap, and one tool page on taxr.org uses Google’s fonts. Those services see that request.

The chat

  • Conversations are kept so the chat works and gets better. Your IP address isn’t saved with them.
  • If you sign in, your messages carry your account.
  • If you share your location, the chat uses it to find the parcel you’re on, and that parcel becomes part of the conversation.
  • Our own audit log records what the chat looks up for you.
  • Answers come from our own language model, not from an outside AI company.
  • If you leave your name and a way to reach you, or report a conversation, we keep that.

Signing in

Where accounts are offered, we keep your email address, your name and how you signed in (Google, for one), and a cookie keeps you signed in. Sign-in emails are sent through Resend.

Writing to us

The contact form keeps your message and, if you give one, your email address. Nothing else.

The apps

PVA Today, on Apple TV, iPhone, iPad and Android phones, and Quilt City for Apple TV. None has an account, ads or analytics, and none puts an owner’s name or an address in its art.

  • PVA Today asks for your location while you’re using it, to greet you by county. It asks only for a rough position, to about a kilometer (an Apple TV gives one to about a town; on Android, an approximate location), and checks it against the counties it has parcels for, on the device itself. The position is never stored and never sent. Say no and it greets Kentucky.
  • Where the app shows a parcel, it shows its number, its size and this year’s sale, from public files inside the app. For the full record, owner of record included, it opens that parcel’s page here, one record at a time, as at the PVA’s counter.
  • PVA Today downloads public files from our own sites: road maps of Kentucky’s counties as you go and, as each county’s records are updated, its parcel files and a short note of which app versions we still support, so an old one can ask you to update instead of breaking. Those requests carry no account, no location and no device ID. Each names the app and its version, and our servers see what any website sees. The app keeps them in its cache, which the system may clear.
  • Apple or Google handles the purchase; we never see your card.
  • Quilt City never asks for your location and never touches the network. Everything it shows is inside the app, and it keeps nothing.

County offices

Deliveries from a PVA office are kept as they arrived, privately, with the name of who sent them. An office’s upload token is its account.

The short version

We don’t sell anything about you

No advertisers, no data brokers. There’s nothing to sell, and we’d rather keep it that way.

Ask, and we’ll delete it

Your messages, your conversations, your account: write to us and a person will take care of it. The public record itself stays with the county.
